Xpel Ultimate Paint Protection Film, is an 8.5 mm thick dual layer urethane that is designed to absorb the impact of road debris and keep it from chipping and damaging the paint. This plays a huge role in to the enjoyment of the car. We want a worry free driving experience, so this car can be driven hard without absolutely ruining the paintwork. Xpel Ultimate PPF is optically clear, and by using the latest technology in tools and installation techniques we can deliver you a protected finish that looks better than the day you bought it.
The second piece to the puzzle is the Gtechniq Protective Coatings. These Coatings are designed to last years, where a traditional wax or sealant will last a matter of months. They are also significantly more capable in terms of UV and chemical protection than any wax or sealant. So water spots, bug guts, and exposure to the sun will not damage and degrade the paints finish. The flagship GTechniq Crystal Serum Ultra Coating adds a ton of gloss, and by providing a surface that will repel dirt and contaminants the vehicle is much easier to clean.
Every project starts with a complete and thorough cleaning of the entire exterior of the car. We want to ensure that all loose debris is gone so that it does not show up in our install areas. We use a range of products to remove all of the above and below surface bonded contaminants so we have a perfectly clean paint surface to work with.
Once the paint and the rest of the car are completely clean, we can evaluate the paint. Even a brand new cars finish can be improved through fine polishing and refinement of the clear coat. You’d be surprised at what your brand new car goes through before you take possession.
Once the paint is refined and looking it’s best, it’s time to keep it that way!! First up is the installation of Xpel Ultimate PPF. Two very important things go in to every install. First is that we install the film as safely as possible in order to preserve the factory finish. We ensure this by using the XPEL DAP Software and our 60″ Graphtec Plotter to pre-design and pre-cut every area of the car before it hits the paint. The software gives us access to perfectly scanned factory fitment of each body panel. We can then go in and custom manipulate the design. We extend edges, delete side markers, and custom design each pattern just as you would “by hand” but with zero chance of cutting through the film with a razor and scoring the paint.
Secondly, is the importance of uniformity. Again the XPEL DAP Software and Graphtec Plotter come in. The computer designed patterns can create the exact same design on the driver’s side of the bumper for example as the passenger side. This is something the human hand cannot perfectly replicate. It is this uniformity that makes the installation near invisible. We can cut perfect circles around parking sensors or follow an existing body line with perfectly straight lines so that the human eye does not pick up these abnormalities. This is what makes for a clean and top level installation.
We also removed the badges and trim so the film edges could be tucked behind for a seamless look.
The factory fitted pieces of film were removed with help of steamer.
The front wing templates were modified to allow the film to be wrapped into the engine bay and door shut
The side skirts templates were also modified to allow the edges of film to be wrapped into the door shut and wheel arches for a cleaner look.
After the film is installed and dry we move on to coating the exterior of the car. These coatings are applied in multiple layers using separate base coat and top coat chemistry for the absolute best in durability, gloss, and protection.
The remaining paintwork which wasnt covered in paint protection film was protected with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra. Once cured Crystal Serum Ultra is virtually impervious to harsh wash chemicals, industrial and environmental fallout. This coating is backed by manufactures 9 year warranty and is only available through their network of accredited detailers.
After Crystal Serum Ultra had cured Gtechniq C0v2 Aero Coat was applied on top (including the paint protection film). This top layer sealant adds an extra level of slickness whilst increasing the hydrophobic properties of the final finish.
Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer used on the plastics.
The fabric roof was treated with multiple coats of Gyeon Q2 Fabric Coat, this advanced silica-based coating lays down an invisible hydrophobic (water-hating) barrier that repels liquids and soiling.
All the exterior glass was coated with Gtechniq G1, making wet weather driving both safer and less tiring. Also keeps windshields cleaner for longer and makes bugs and ice easy to clean off.
The wheels, brake calipers and exhaust tips were coated with Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour.
And the end result…
Below photo clearly shows how optically clear the film is as the metallic flake “pops” through same as a panel with no film applied (front wing covered in film whilst the door is not)
